How’s it going! I’ve decided to break up my day and yours with an announcement for one of those weird other projects I keep banging on about. Esteemed guests, please put your hands together for Cursed Objects & Us.
I’ve spoken a little bit about the genesis of this project over on Patreon, but for the uninitiated, Cursed Objects & Us is the end product of a hectic night of creative productivity during a visit to Manchester some weeks back, during which three of my closest friends and I frantically wrote, doodled and painted our way through a series of manic pieces of art on the subjects of time, art, and friendship. There was no particular end goal in mind, only a desire to rekindle the mad, enthusiastic spirit of making art for the fun on it.
When we were finished, the only sensible thing to do seemed to be to compile everything we’d made in that single session into a themed, dare I even say “coherent” collection. There’s a combination of visual art, poetry, and a couple of things that are difficult to classify one way or another between these pages, and I’m very excited to share all of them with the wider world. I don’t have an exact release date for you, as I’m still in the process of editing the zine as we speak, but I’m going to estimate it will be out before the end of the month, so with any luck you shouldn’t have to wait too long.
I’m also not certain in what form or capacity the zine will be distributed, although it will most likely be a digital platform of one kind or another. One thing I can tell you is that 100% of the proceeds from the zine will be going to support Self Help, a user-led mental health charity based in the north of England.
In the meantime, why not check out some of my collaborators’ other work? Alice has her own blog here, David dabbles in political commentary over here, and I suspect you’ll be hearing more about Jay’s upcoming work right here on this very website in the near future.
Hope you’re hyped for some weird zine content! I know I am.
